About Us

Krystal and Floyd Parkhurst are fifth generation metalsmith from Fort Defiance, Arizona. They are the grand-children of the renowned Navajo silversmiths Isabelle and Ivan Kee and the great-great-grand-children of Atsidii (Smith) Yazzie. Atsidi Yazzi was the first among their kin to work with fire, earth, and metal. They learned sand-casting from their grandmother Isabelle, who was taught by her grandfather, Astidii Yazzie. The foundation of their knowledge and experience consists of handmade tools and traditional methods.

Desert Moon has a variety of jewelry and artwork from talented Native artists all over the country.

Desert Moon was started to help the People. We wanted to help those affected by the COVID shutdown.  Many artists are struggling to provide for their family's basic needs.

Many on the reservation do not have addresses, digital bank accounts, or access to social support programs.
For many, handmade jewelry is their only source of livelihood.   When jewelry businesses closed, it left many unable to sell their jewelry and unable to earn income to support their families.

Seeing the need to fill the gap Krystal and Floyd Parkhurst worked to secure a federal business loan so they may buy/commission jewelry from Native artists.  We feel pride and hope enabling artists to overcome the shutdown so they may provide for their families and loved ones.
